Description |
Windsor parlor chair with white and gold paint. A note is attached to the underside of chair which reads: "Mrs. Richard G. Bailey (nee) Emma Hitton who was married April 13, 1815 at the age of 16 years, purchased of a Mr. Carlton in the year 1817 a sett of parlor chairs of which this is one. The above named Carlton being the local cabinetmaker of the town of Waterford, Maine. They were used in the capacity of best chairs for many years. At her decease June 6, 1876 they came into the possession of her son Osgood Bailey, a deaf mute, at whose decease October 17, 1894 they were distributed among the near relatives as souvenirs. Bridgton, March 16, 1896. Richard F. Bailey." Emily was 16 years old at the time of her marriage. |
